Today we went back to the ChataChuck weekend market (the hundreds of vendors) for a little bit and hit the Siam Paragon Aquarium for Addi Reward time. Housed in the basement of a giant high end mall, this is one of the best aquariums I've been to. With the price of admission, we could take a tour of the back rooms, take a glass bottom boat ride across one of the giant aquariums, have fish nibble on your feet (we didn't), and scuba in the tanks (we didn't). It was huge and gorgeous. A must do for anyone with children visiting Bangkok. Our favorite were the extensive aquarium tunnels.
Traffic was horrendous on the return trip. Greg turned into a local and drove through some back alley mazes that popped us out right by the apartment. I was proud of little bro...and he was chuckling with delight at his feat.
I bought our tickets to Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia for Monday morning and paid 3x the usual price thanks to Chinese New Year travelers. The lesson here: don't travel the week of Chinese New Years. Oh well. My consolation prize is we are staying in a 5 star hotel there for $80/night. I couldn't turn down a deal like that!! My other consolation prize is that the flight from there to Sumatra, Indonesia was $91 TOTAL!!

Go Greg! Glad to hear that you got to see those aquariums. Your plans for the next phase sound really exciting!! Much love to all, Baba and Pooh
ReplyDeleteGlad to hear that Greg's crazy driving habits have found a home.
ReplyDeleteNext phase of the trip sounds wonderful- can't wait to hear about it. Addi has learned to do a nice saalam.

no recent pictures of Smity--did he go home or get bitten by a box jellyfish?
ReplyDeleteI spoke too soon-missed the post that explained his run in with the jellyfish. Didn't I warn you Rocky?
ReplyDeleteGood point about the lack of Jim pics! I've been forgetting my camera and he has been hiding when I borrow his. We will paparazzi him before we leave Bangkok! :-)
ReplyDeleteSafe travels to Malaysia. Can't wait for more great travel tales.
ReplyDeleteI just saw there is some unrest on the border between Cambodia and Thailand... is that anywhere near where you plan to go on the next leg of your adventure after Malaysia?
I second the comment about lack of photos of Crocodile Jim. It sounds like he's working too much... Unless by "working" you mean out wrangling jellyfish to keep tourists safe or spear fishing for your dinner... Or, perhaps he's selling trinkets at the Bangkok market?
xo
We are watching the Cambodia/ Thialand border issue but it should not interfere with our plans. We are not planning an overland border crossing, and the tension is very much concentrated. As for Jim, he has been busy interviewing everyone he meets...I mean he is working. :-)
